It works better than I expected for my needs. The poles in the back actually retract and are comfortable. Massage is mostly just vibrate, however, it has proved very functional in a different way. The electrodes simulate the neck muscles very well and with plenty of power, and the vibrate somehow takes away the "string" of the effect which makes it quite pleasant. The metal contacts do their job well and are nice not to have to deal with gel pads, just a bit of wetting if needed. The heat function is mild and is off by default. I've been dealing with TMJ and neck issues for the last couple years and have soreness and imbalance between the two sides of my neck that ache constantly. This has already helped substantially both for pain reduction and soreness or toning. I'm excited to see what it can do with more use. The build quality is top notch as well. This is easily worth the price I paid and I'm very satisfied so far.
